So, it has been a few days since my last post but this time there have not been as many crazy adventures this weekend (yet, I always have to say yet these days). Friday was the third day in a row that it rained, causing a lot of the roads to flood and really getting me concerned. I walked home in ankle deep water half the way and the ponds around campus has filled at the way to the top of the sidewalk. I have moats (yes, real live moats. These suckers are too big to be ditches), that line both sides of every road on campus and they had risen about a foot due to all the rain. Since there was call for even more rain, I was getting concerned. Not that anything would happen to me on the 4th floor but if the power went out....well I only have one book here. So I figured if it was starting to get bad, I would go over to a friend's place that was fine even in the 2006 flood here.
Friday night I went out with some friends. We enjoyed hanging out and then a group of tourists walk into the bar. Everyone, Thais and us, were all surprised because Uttaradit is not a tourist place. Not even close. Add that to the fact they were also in our favorite bar, and we were intrigued. I watched as some of them tried to find the bathroom and then realized what it was, poor things. I know, I should not laugh at these things, but I have been here long enough to where things don't surprise me nearly as much. Like I was in a Chinese shop getting cocoa for the chocolate frosting on the cupcakes and something warm brushes past my legs and I don't even bat an eyelash. My friend was the one who exclaimed and pointed out that the shop had many cats.
So yes, then yesterday, I spent the morning being lazy and enjoying the comfort of my bed and then the rest of the day with a friend making cupcakes and chatting. I have now become the best friend of an 8 year old boy because I showed him the privilege of getting to lick the beaters once the frosting was made. The cupcakes turned out wonderfully. The frosting is very tasty but we had to use Thai sugar so it is a little grainy (as in you feeling the sugar granules). Also, it melts in the Thai heat so you have to keep it in the fridge until right before you eat the cupcake lol. Anyway, it was tons of fun. And it finally stopped raining so the water levels have gone back down.
Now today, I think I am going to spend the day in. I think I am going to lounge and read books today. But this could end up like Thursday night where I thought I was going to spend the night in and then ended up at a place I like with some friends by the river. That led to the first time I rode on the back of a motorcycle in the rain, with a hot pink poncho that failed miserably at keeping my face and head dry, despite its large size. I laughed 90% of the ride home and after two minutes, my driver joined in claiming that now the situation was funny. Lol. Looks like the rain is letting up, let's make a break for it now, my butt! Lol.
Okay, that is all I got for you now. I have another full week of classes lined up and another dance class to teach tomorrow, and you never know how those will go lol.
