"Put that girl down!" Heads turn. Smirk. The girl is put back on the ground. This is an excerpt from my dance class yesterday. I started them on swing, particularly the hustle. Turn my back and a couple is trying to do lifts. And guess who the guy doing the lifting was? Yep, little Casanova. The menace. Can't seem to behave or stay away from girls. Now I was too shocked to really analyze the lift but thinking back, they at least had a good start. Not that I am going to expand on that. Lifts are dangerous and I had just taught them the basic step, a turn and a spin. They pick up the hustle waaaaay faster than the waltz. But seriously? I am shaking my head and laughing. He is such a menace and I love him! Oh and did I mention that after that incident I decided that since he was a danger to the girls and since he wanted to show off, he should dance with me. Ha! Flustered the kid a little bit but he braved up, stuck out his chin and extended his hand. And he made it very clear that since I was twice his height I was to spin on my own but only when he directed. Oh man! And then, today most of my class showed up late for voice so I played them some songs and they were to tell me what they like and don't like. Every single student, boy and girl, liked a song I thought none of them would. When I said, "Really?!" the little menace looked straight at me and said, "Yes!" in an even tone. I think I was more surprised he understood me than I was about the song they all liked. My shadow may be a beautiful sweetheart but I am a TOTAL softy for little Casanova. Oh heaven help the girls in his future!
Other than that, I have been reading and teaching. I have decided to give the singing with my guitar friend a shot and I will let you guys how it goes. To be clear, I am going to a rehearsal. If it sounds good and we are both happy, we will bring the show to the stage. I spent time this morning picking out and practicing songs. Rusty, rusty but I can put myself back in good singing shape. I have done enough singing today though so I am banning myself from any more today. Practice too much and the next day you sound like a frog.
Well since this is a short post I will give you a tidbit about Thailand that you didn't know. The word 'buffalo' is synonymous with stupid. It is also used to refer to farang but with an additional meaning and one that is quite negative. Farang are similar to buffalo in the fact that they go somewhere, drink, move somewhere else, drink and so on. Not a pleasant word here, but at least it has not been used for me. The worse most people do is my (Thai) name without the title 'Teacher' or farang when they want to talk about me. But everything speaks Thai! Only nit noy guys! Nit noy!
