So my last class yesterday had a surprise for me. Have no idea how they managed to do this but they sang a song, "I am happy. I am happy. I am happy to see you. You are happy. You are happy. You are happy to see me." These were my 10 year olds. This is why tiny ones are better than the older ones. And last class of the day too. Best start of class I have ever had.
Also, a son of one of the teachers comes to me every day and yells "HELLLLLOOOOOO!" Right in front of my desk. And he repeats it until I say hello back. If I move away without saying hello he follows me. Yes, this means sometimes I have him repeat it a few times before I respond. It is so darn cute! And it doesn't hurt if I do not respond right away because he just assumes I can't hear him even if I don't have my headphones in. So much adorableness in children. Where does it all go?
Another thing. The storms here freak me a little out the sky turns a green-yellow-gray that you would expect in relation to a tornado or really bad storm. The color of the light is just disconcerting. Somehow, I have been indoors when most of the wicked storms arrive.
So I have decided to start reading a chapter book to my older kids, a little each week. I asked them what they wanted to read. The Hobbit was the winner. Ambitious ones, but I love their spirit. Honestly, at this point I will read them what I can get my hands on in English. The only physical books I brought with me were Jane Eyre and Jude the Obscure, neither of which would work. And the stuff on my Kindle would be too hard.....still working on this.
There are a few other things to tell about this week. I have been playing I Spy in some of my classes and they are adorable suck ups, aren't they? "I spy someone beautiful." "I spy someone lovely." At least I know they know what an adjective is. And my personal fav: "I spy something people" meaning purple. Then this afternoon a student came to check and see if we still had English club because it was canceled yesterday due to the room being booked. Yes, Tiny Casanova, we will have class. But you jumping up and squealing at my answer totally ruins your image. Keep it together Tiny one!
And finally, I now have access to Netflix, Pandora, etc. I found a different way since I was tired of waiting for the plug in to upgrade. It seems tenuous at times but I will treasure it. The gift of television is precious.
Still not done! I now have half a dozen Chinese Dream Buns and the lady who owns the Chinese Bakery says when she is less busy, maybe next month, she will teach me how to make them and other things. And she even gave me free cookies! Expensive cookies! You know if you keep spoiling me with gifts I am just going to have to keep coming back, right? And my friend gave me free fruit. Not sure what it is honestly and have not tried it yet but I will tomorrow. Everybody just keeps giving me things *shakes head*
And finally (for real), my awwwww moment of the week. One of the moments that makes you stop in your tracks and marvel. Yesterday it began to rain. A tiny girl, maybe two, was walking beside her father. Neither have an umbrella. The father takes off his windbreaker jacket and puts it around and over the little girl and her tiny fists attempt to hold it above her head, though it is mainly resting on top of her head. Her steps wobble, as does the walk of any two year old. And the dad stops and waits for his daughter to catch up. He is just standing in dress pants and a short sleeved shirt, with his eyes on his daughter and not caring that is getting soaked. It was beautiful.
