Of Mirth and Merriment

Well my last blog post covered a lot of ground but there are always things that are left out. Such as the fun that was putting up our own mosquito net since one of the teachers knocked it down. How many teachers does it take to put up a mosquito net? Five. Two to make a (wobbly) human tower, two to make sure the tower does not tip over (and it was a full time job) and one to document the situation because it was so darn funny! Lesson learned: Never knock over the mosquito netting. It takes half and hour and five people to get it back up again.

Let's see what else I forgot......Oh yes, I was sunburnt hardcore from weaving. Under a covered area. Yeah, I have no idea how that happened. My back also hurts majorly from that because for Thai weaving you are part of the loom to create tension on the cotton strings. For hours. And two kittens were eyeing my weaving. No. Bad kitties! Do not take one more step closer. Okay, someone get these tiny adorable menaces before I hurt them!

Another thing, I loved the meals at our place in the middle of nowhere. We met people from all over. Some were on vacation and some were teachers from Singapore or Malaysia. We even met some Americans on our last night there. Although we used up too much power our last night there because all the power went out at 9.  They function off of solar power and each cabin has a light in the bedroom and bathroom. One bulb each. And tiki torches light the way down the dirt and bamboo paths. In the morning, fog would cover half of the area and gradually dissipate to reveal more mountains. There was no privacy since only bamboo is protecting you from the outside. I could even hear children laughing that were working in the rice fields on the next mountain over. The entire thing was amazing.

We came in to town today and I have a bus ticket for 5pm back to my city. That means I have three more hours before I leave and I will get home at 10:30. The other teachers already left on their respective buses and I took a tuk tuk back to Central Plaza since there was no where with internet near my bus station and 5 hours with nothing to do is harsh. I am drinking a frappe right now (yeah, looks like I can tolerate some version of coffee). I think I am going to see how much a massage is after I finish this post. I still have two hours to kill before I take a tuk tuk back to the bus station. I am so looking forward to sleeping tonight and on the bus. I had trouble getting to sleep because smoke from the bonfire was wafting through our cabin and no amount of logic would make me feel better. I have gotten much better about tolerating smoke but when you are staying in a house that is essentially a ready-to-light candle and mosquito netting is not easy to get out of.....well. Alright, time to finish this frappe and see if I can get myself a massage. A bus ride with my back already a sore mass is not going to make me a pleasant person to be around tomorrow. Remember that for the next three days I am doing little at my desk because it is midterms week so feel free to talk to me! <3
