So yep, it is Thai Culture Day. I found out when I got to work today and all the teachers are dressed in traditional long wrap-around Thai skirts and the traditional Thai shirts. I also do not teach two of my classes today. So surprise first thing in the morning to start my week off right lol. And Google even did a special thing for the day.
Well I know it has been a few days but nothing much has happened that I need to report. I was being a recluse and going to my room and reading all last week and then this weekend, my bed was very tempting and I did not want to get out of it lol. But a friend convinced me that I should prove I don't hate people so I called up one of my other friends and planned dinner Saturday. Dinner turned out to be at a bar (they serve Thai food at bars here and this was actually the Elephant bar I have been to a few times) and then went to a dance club afterwards.
The cool thing was how our group grew. Three of my Cameroonian friends took me and then we met up with two other farang, one from England and one from the U.K. and then an hour later 3 more farang from South Africa and Scotland join. Oh we had so much fun! We sang to the English songs they always play whenever a farang walks in (live music), and had a half hour discussion about soccer vs. futball. Then we went dancing. They are royally spoiling me though by paying for me every time we go out. I know, I know, not normal for me but let's just say I have had to get over it. Too many puyaih pay for me and I have gotten many things for free even at stores simply because I am white. There is nothing to do if the owner of the store simply won't take your money and keeps giving it back to you (thought about dropping it and dashing but that would break too many cultural rules. It is considered disrespectful if I do not let them pay or give me whatever they feel for free. It is like trying to pay someone back for buying you a present. So yep, just got over it.) And I have a new fabulous friend who lives 5 minutes from my school. I see more fun and fabulous times ahead!
So yeah, sorry this isn't a gripping post after making yall wait a few days, but don't worry I am happy and well. I am downing books like popcorn. I think my current rate is 2-3 a day depending on the size of the book. At this rate, I will run out of free books to download from the Kindle store. Oh and random fact, they loooove Adele here, though it is difficult for them to say her name. Oh and another thing: I have been invited to sing with a farang friend playing guitar at some places around town. I'm toying with the idea and will let you guys know. And as my friends point out, everyone already stares at me, so why not make it to where I am actually doing something to get stared at lol. Right now I am leaning towards trying anything once. Oh the things that happen in Thailand!
