So my my favorite quotes from grading this morning: "We do good in day" and "I make good things." And now "I go to the patriotic." I just taught them that word, though looks like I need to elaborate a bit. Such sweet kids! So only half of my kids knew what a high-five was so I showed them. It was an incentive to finish a puzzle. Too hard for little kids, my butt. They recognize patterns better than any other age. One girl even skipped after I gave her a high-five. Poor deprived things. And the girls are all timid. What? I am not going to push you over. Only 3 more classes today and 2 tomorrow. I can do this! And finally learned how to say color in Thai. And it comes out sounding similar to how you say how are you. The kids laughed but at least they understood.
One random note: I have been wondering how to pay for my laundry. I know the price per month but this culture is so shy and un-confrontational that they never ask for the bill. And I rarely see the lady because I just hang the clothes on my door and they magically reappear clean a few days later. And it is already the 9th of the next month. Luckily I saw her today because there is no way I am leaving money hanging outside my door.
Today I found a Harry Potter book and I was super excited. But it is in Thai :`( I have decided that I am going to let my older students pick out a book as a class that is in English and I will read a little bit of it to them in English each week and ask questions to make sure they understand. It will be difficult to find a book in English because I have only seen two bookstores in all of Thailand and they are definitely not in Uttaradit. But I will see.
Also, I still do not have access to my Thai bank account, which is starting to be no longer okay. It has been a week and a half since I got paid and yet, why I has no money? Especially when I want to travel this weekend and next weekend. As it turns out, both of my next two weekend are 4-day weekends so I get to have a ton of fun, given I can get out of Uttaradit. There is a lazy river by Lampang I want to go on and I WILL get a massage this weekend. The place here has the same hours as my school, which is not okay. I am trying to find at least one person to hang with these weekends. I mean, this will not be the first time I have traveled alone but I value friends experiencing things with me as much as I value the experience. Darn it for not having a country-wide school system. We all have been summoned to renew our Visas on Mother's Day in three weeks or so (yeah, it is later here and you also get the day off). So at least then I will get to see everyone. They also have Father's Day and Children's Day here. Oh, and I still want to go to one of the full moon parties. They are supposed to be some of the world's biggest parties. So much to do! Good thing I have so many weekends to do them!
