So this upcoming weekend is a 4 day weekend (and may be five if I can manage it) and we are going to the BEEEEEAAAAAACCCCCCHHHHHHH. I will have to live very cheaply after this upcoming weekend to save for October funness, but honestly that is not hard. If I do not leave Uttaradit, I will spend very little money. The only major things I pay for here are food and electricity. So yes, the beach. And I am letting one of the other teachers plan the whole trip. It is going to be relaxing, with four beaches and snorkeling. You know that everyone has those little wishes that they never even say out loud because they would never in a million years think it would come true? This one did not even make it on my bucket list. I am going to have a massage on a beach. In an exotic place to boot. The entire weekend is going to take about $150 but I am learning that some things are really worth the cost.
In other news, transformation complete. "Aww you sound like a proper Thai lady." "Awwww you act like a proper lady." Eyes down, voice soft and high pitched, respectful wai and polite Thai language complete with conservative dress. Not saying anything besides answering questions or complimenting someone. Smile, no matter what is going through my head. Fewer and fewer lectures. As long as I put effort into being a Thai woman, all is quiet on the town gossip point. Going to dinner with a male friend. Sister will accompany. Home before dark. So please do not think that I am not being respectful of Thai culture. In my blog I get to say a lot of things that I cannot say all day and there is much more that does not make it into my blog. I am enjoying my time here though have struggled with how to remain me while being docile. There are things I have to just turn my cheek about and blatantly ignore, even when I think it is morally wrong. I think I have mastered it though.
I sorely wish I had the little ones today. They are always so eager and happy all the time. And absolutely adorable even when they are very very wrong. I already got my naughty class out of the way for the week. And tomorrow is a Thai holiday where everyone goes to the temple all day. But I still may have class. Or maybe not. I will find out soon enough, I guess. And I decided to take a break from waltz in my dance class and start on the hustle. They have done slow music for a few weeks and now we shall do something upbeat. Also, I only got 5 hours of sleep last night. It seems my ability to get to sleep is getting worse. Over a week now and getting progressively worse. I am going to try and exhaust myself today and maybe that will work. I mean, I am playing games in all of my classes today. Telephone and I Spy. Then I get the dance class with my little Casanova. Just six more hours.....
Oh and I bit the bullet and bought sheets for the third bed. So everyone in the future who is staying in the second bedroom can thank me now. They cost as much as my electric bill for last month. This way I also have extra sheets so I can wash my sheets at normal hours. And yes, they are pink. Welcome to Thailand. People still have to bring their own pillow and blanket if they come as a group though. And if you are particularly charming and sweet I might share my stash of blow pops. Might.
