Music warms my heart

Well I had my first rehearsal and it went really well. I have a set of 24 songs and now am practicing them. Guess who gets to sing Fat Bottomed Girl? Oh yeah! Bringing the American to them lol. But really, it was so great to sing and my guitar playing companion can sing as well and we sound good together. Second rehearsal is next week so I have a little bit of practicing to do. I need to brush up on words for songs and I am changing the key for a few of them. Some are modern and some are classics and as I have been informed, if I do a classic I need to do it better than the original lol. Pay at least for the start is beer and food. Haha I am really doing this!

Cute things my students have done this week: One student wrote 'Frbee' instead of Free on his Bingo card. And I am thoroughly impresses by my students. I had my students play a game with topics such as food and animals. They said words like croissant, king cobra, turtledove, soft-shelled turtle, dragon and dinosaur. And these are my 13 year olds.

There is more news, but not of the endearing kind. One of the teachers in my office is in the hospital with Dengue fever. There was a little language barrier when they were trying to tell me what she has, but google always helps things. I brought 3 kinds of bug spray with me over here, each of them different, but only one kind keeps away the specific type of mosquito that carries dengue. The fact that this disease is obviously very close to me makes me a little worried, especially because sometimes I have so many bug bites on my legs that it looks like I have acne on my legs or the chicken pox, but now I will take much more caution. And as I have been reminded, I should not go visit her this weekend, which was what I intended to do. I could easily catch it that way and I know better, but sometimes concern doesn't let you think things through. Instead I have stepped up with the rest of my teachers to help cover her classes. My heart goes out to her.

Last bit of news for you today! I was walking to meet a friend, when a motorbike does a u-turn and stops right in front of me. Eyebrows raised a little at this. The person on the motorbike is male. Eyebrows raise a little more. He asks where I am from. 'Seriously? You did that just to ask me where I am from?' But I answer. Turns out he is from Kansas, although he is originally from Korea. I should have known he was not Thai because I can only think of 4 Thai males that have even spoken to me since I got here and 3 of those are part of my organization. So now I have a new friend :-) Four new friends in a week. I'm feeling lucky :-)
