How You Open A Festival

Or not. Monday, I was coming back from my Visa run to Chiang Mai when I got a phone call from my companion. I was asked to open a festival the next morning. I was given a time for the festival but I did not have any idea what festival, where it was or what exactly 'opening' means. So early Tuesday morning, I was found lying on my bed as one of my ladyboy friends did my makeup and then my hair. We settled with a style that is pretty and yet professional. She desperately wanted to do "sexy style" but I convinced her to do that next time and not when I have to teach and am wear traditional Thai clothes. When she did my hair she pulled out some flowers to decorate the back. I have a real soft spot for flowers and I love flowers in my hair, which only encouraged her to put in more lol.

So I arrive at school all decked out and I get hilarious reactions. Double takes, children running into classrooms that were not theirs just to take a picture and then leave. They asked if I had a date and also asked if I put in contacts. However, when it was time to leave for the festival I could not go. My school needed to sign some paperwork to allow me to go (even though I did not have class then), and they did not. So I stayed at school. It is sad that I did not get to go to that festival, but there are other festivals and what girl doesn't like getting dressed up for a day. Getting ready for it was an experience for me because usually I am the one that dresses up my friends or myself. I realized that getting your lipstick put on by another person tickles and my ladyboy friend giggled as she did my lips because she said my lips looked like a baby bird. Not sure how to take that. I think she did a great job and I tried very hard all day to stay cool enough to have at least not all of it melt off. I also love that she made it apparent that my eyes are hazel (hence the reason my students thought I was wearing contacts). Though no fake eyelashes this time. The last thing I needed was those melting off lol.

So yep, that was my festival experience. The visa process was a little more frustrating this time but now I am good until December. I had more bonding time with my friends, so that was nice. And then yesterday one of my Thai friends called me all excited because there is a new farang in town. So of course all my female Thai friends are trying to figure out all his info. I pity the man, but if you come here as a farang, it is expected. And a little hilarious. So I look forward to meeting the new farang though I am sure I will find out all his info from my friends before I actually meet him lol. Well only a week and a half left before the break. Just have to teach the rest of this week and then next week I do very little since it is exam time and I don't give exams in my classes (my students get one grade for English and they have my English class and their other Thai teacher's English class, so the Thai teacher gives the final and all I do is correct and look over the final, which is already done). I am going to start making lesson plans for next semester but part of me really doesn't feel like doing that, at least not this morning. I mean, I already have some lessons and projects for some of my classes next semester.....lol. So instead I will play and read this morning. Until teaching time, that is. Oh another day at work.
