Sing the songs of Thailand

Today was a very fun day. We spent the morning learning more Thai words and phrases. We now know the numbers and how to barter. Our teacher even taught us how to ask for a discount. There is this letter in Thai, ng, that sounds like the ng in singing and as a whole, we are murdering it so bad. Favorite quote for the day was when a teacher said "you have an inside problem" to one of the groups who could not sing. Yes, today we sang (the link below is one of the songs. Warning: have fun getting it out of you head after you hear it a few times). It only took us an hour to learn it. We also made floating flower boats as we learned about the Loi Krathong festival that will happen in November.
As rewards, they like to give us fruit. Yesterday, we received mangos. Today, we tried mangosteen and ngoh. Both of these fruits are difficult to describe so see the links below. We also had pork for lunch and pork is Thai is nuu (said new). For dinner we ate at a make you own seafood soup place. I ended up getting a pepper somehow that actually number my tongue, mouth and lips for an hour. What I have learned is to take small bits of ambiguous foods, even if it looks like a tiny, harmless green bean. We took a horse carriage ride to the Sere Center, which was where we ate dinner and then fifteen of us crammed in this tiny bus taxi that took us back to our hotel.
I chose to stay in tonight because a group of us stayed up dancing last night until early morning. I think we are all bonding wonderfully. Oh, and I bought a Thai phone today, though it does not have any minutes until I walk to the 7-11 down the street. I have to be up really early to get ready to visit a Thai school (no, not mine assigned school but just a school). Oh, and one more thing. I made friends with the massage lady, whose name is Oh Shin and she is helping me with my Thai and says I get discounted massages from now on. Things as a whole just kind of rock. If only I didn't sweat my body weight each day, things would be just wonderful.

  1. What is the temperature range? Is it humid? Looks like a sort of high elevation so I'm guessing not so humid?

  2. It actually is humid, but not as humid as central Georgia can get sometimes. The heat and bugs are killer though. You sweat almost constantly.
