Well, I feel like I should finish what I have to say about Frankfurt before moving on to the rest of the journey. Frankfurt is honestly one of the coolest cities I have seen. Graffiti covers so many surfaces but it is not like American graffiti; these are like pieces of artwork displayed along the train and walkways as if they were in a museum. And also, they are so creative with colors and styles. But enough about graffiti. We came out from the underground main train stop in the heart of the city and emerged in a large techno and pop concert. And when I say the middle, I mean in the crowd about ten feet from the stage. We left the concert and saw a guy riding a motorcycle across a tightwire between two twenty story buildings. As we walked more, we came to a square where there was a Chinese buddhist ceremony and festival occurring. Honestly, after seeing all of those random things I should not have been surprised to then see people playing soccer while hanging off of the side of a twenty story building. These guys had a giant banner they rolled down the side of the building complete with actual soccer goals. Then they attached themselves to wires and hung down until they were hanging on the field. They put a soccer ball on a wire and then proceeded to play soccer horizontally on the side of a building. Who thinks of these things? These Germans are seriously creative in all areas.
But enough about Frankfurt. We managed to catch our connecting flight in Vienna. We have dubbed it the "Vienna sprint." We ran down a whole terminal, looped around and up three escalators, ran through a custom stop to get our passports stamped and ran down another terminal using two running walkways. The good thing is that we got all that exercise before being placed on a ten hour flight. Now, a comment about moral. For a group of strong individuals who collectively might have slept nine hours total, we are getting along nicely. There is not a lot of sniping or complaining, and for the most part we have stayed together. Though we continuously only count six people instead of seven and have to figure out Was left behind or got lost somewhere.
Right now I am flying over some countries northwest of India. Only five more hours on this flight and then just one more and I am in Chiang Mai. The moon and stars are beautiful to look at over the wing of the plane. Earlier, on the flight to Vienna, we were between two cloud layers (cummulous below and cirrus above) and that was also a magical place to be. I felt like I was surrounded by fluffy soft clouds and no matter what I tell myself I just want to reach out and touch a cloud, even though I know it is just water vapor.
Well, that is pretty much all I have for now. Tomorrow (though by Thailand time it is today) I will actually be halfway across the world in the land of smiles. If what I have experienced so far is any indication, I am going to have so many adventures. Yaaaaay!
