Wednesday began quite early as none of us slept very well. I ended up reading a book at 3am before finally being able to fall asleep again. I had the same fantastic breakfast as the day before, attempted to see Ocean once again before going to the bus station and hopping a bus to Lampang.
After arriving in Chiang Mai, we lounged, got food and relaxed. I got a massage for my poor battered body. Then we wandered around a really cool new outdoor mall area. We had no reason to rush and so just enjoyed ourselves. I ate Subway for lunch. It was still Thai version but had enough semblance of America to make me very happy. Then we took a suntow into the city. After arriving at our hostel, we conked out for a couple hours. All this exercise, heat, traveling and excitement wore us out. It is a good thing we took the nap because when we came downstairs, more of our friends were in the lobby. Together we went for food. We ended up walking across the city for some Mexican food. It was delicious, especially after a 45 minute walk and the more we walked, the more friends were added to our group so that by the time dinner was over we had a large group.
Well, to celebrate coming together once again, especially when two of our members are leaving very soon, we went out and drank at a bar on wheels. No, it does not move while it is open. I find it hard to describe but I will try my best. The bar was in the center of the open aired truck. On all sides were chairs and benches. The chairs were technically bicycle seats and you had to climb up on two wooden boxes and pull yourself up to get into the chair. So we are above the heads of the people walking on the street around us, with a bar tender a foot away from us, giving us strong drinks and Jamaican music blasting from these tiny speakers. And the bar was all decorated with Christmas lights. It was a really cool bar, the bartender was funny and he spoke English. All of our group talked a lot, teased a lot and laughed a lot. After two hours though we had to move on because bicycle seats are only comfortable for so long.
So after the moving bar, we went to a different Mexican restaurant and one of the farang ordered our group a pitcher of margarita. Think large sized ice tea pitcher, except margarita. Jamaican music was once again playing and we had more laughs and fun. Oh and nachos! Now that I think about it, we were really in a Mexican mood yesterday. But everyone had fun and was safe. I did not try the tequila with the viper in it this time since I had plenty of other things to drink but I am not saying never to that. Who knows, right?
