Alright, so I am finally to today. Sorry, it has taken time to get caught up. We all woke up sweating in our beds because there is no air con, though there is supposed to be. The hot water didn't work either when we stepped into the shower, though after how hot it was in our room we did not mind very much. Slowly we all rolled out of bed and decided to start today's adventures. We decided to go to the zoo. But first, we needed breakfast.
Getting to breakfast took considerably longer than it should have because our driver got lost and had to ask directions many, many times. We felt really bad and wanted him to just let us out and we would walk to it, but we do not know how to get there, unfortunately. But he eventually found the place. It was amazing. I had biscuits and gravy and eggs benedict. Yep. They had pulled pork sandwiches, buckwheat pancakes, mac n cheese and everything farang lol. The place was decorated like a 50's diner right down to the rhubarb pie on the checkout counter. It was delightful.
So then we get a ride to the zoo. They do not give us the discount even when we show them our work IDs, so we had to pay tourist price, sadly, but it was not very expensive. The zoo is on the side of a mountain and beautiful. However, the walkways are very steep and the place was crazy confusing as far as directions go. At first we mainly just walked around on whim, looking at some cool animals. We then saw the seal show, which was cute, although small. After three hours, we finally decided it was ready to head back. The sad part is we were not seeing a way back that would take us less than an hour. According to one set of directions we needed to go down a construction path. Since none of us wanted to walk in the heat for another hour, we decided to go on the construction path and if we weren't supposed to be there, we were sure the workers would not mind telling us. They did not stop us though and that shortcut saved us 40 minutes of walking. Plus, now I can say I have seen a purple back-hoe with purple curtains. Now, even though we saved a lot of time and we were near the exit, it took another half hour to find it. The paths were not matching up and the directions in the park were awful. For the last 15 minutes all of us were practically desperate to get out of the park. Then the exit appeared and we were saved!
All of us agree that we will probably not be revisiting the park, though it was nice. They had a bb gun shooting range in the middle of the zoo that just astounded us. They also had the large plastic balls that you can get into and roll around on top of the water. We thought about it, but figured it would feel like a sauna inside of there and we were already drenched in sweat. So we just stuck to the zoo proper.
Now afterwards, we traveled to a restaurant that had delightful farang food. It was set like an English bar, complete with farang beers and dull lighting. We had a great view to get there too since we had to be let off at a market and then cross a colorful iron bridge to get to it. We ended up lounging there for a few hours before deciding that we were stagnant too long. We get back to the hostel only to find out that there is a hostel barbeque at a new party part of the hostel two blocks down the road. Thing awesome Thai fun house and that was where we went. Giant tree house where the bottom has hammocks and the top has bean bag chairs and a bookshelf. Picnic tables, a pool, a pool table, a barbeque and a fire pit. It has not officially opened because there is still some construction but in three weeks it is going to be great. The entire place is surrounded by a very tall bamboo fence so no Thai peekers and it is far enough away from the neighbors that we can play music without the cops showing up. Plus, you get to meet all the backpackers! So yep, we crashed hard after all that exercise and fun.
